KEEPING SCHOOLS SMART
The Keeping Schools Smart slate is running on a multifaceted platform:
Academic Excellence: Develop targeted programming to close gaps and improve performance - particularly in math and literacy.
World Language Instruction: Advocate for in-person world language education for every child in K-8.
Early Childhood Education: Fight for increased access to and investment in early childhood education in Voorhees, as well as reform of the current lottery system.
Greater STEM Focus: Invest in programming in science, technology, engineering, and math to ensure Voorhees learners are sufficiently trained and exposed to, as well as ready for, academic and professional opportunities.
Improve the CER program by offering CER Clubs: Develop teacher-led, cost-friendly, and exciting after school clubs for the Voorhees school district. Examples include: coding, kickball, crafting, chess, and more!
School Security Reform: Develop and implement new common sense processes, procedures, and capital investments to address existing holes in security to keep students, teachers, and staff safe.
Smoother Transition from Middle School to High School: Ensure all 8th graders are prepared for the rigors and demands of high school upon graduation.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Champion DEI across the district in areas such as technology access, technology use, health education, and the teaching of accurate history.
Social and Emotional Learning: Audit and enhance SEL programming to mitigate the growing mental health crisis in children and adolescents and support overall well-being.
.
Skills Based Learning: Invest in skills training for Voorhees students around studying, organization, and time management to support academic success.
This election is critical. The Keeping Schools Smart slate positions are not political insofar as their primary objective is to preserve a holistic, inclusive, excellent, and evidence- based public school system here in our town. Our platform is built around improving and enhancing educational opportunities for Voorhees learners, and that should not be political.
However, we are running against some clearly right-wing extreme candidates whose objectives are to defund our schools through vouchers and other methods; to ban books and limit educational opportunities; to defund the teachers’ union; to disrupt education by targeting and disparaging teachers individually and collectively; to engage the school district and the BOE in endless, frivolous, and costly legal battles; and generally to dismantle the very fabric of our public schools.
The Keeping Schools Smart slate believes we, as a community, cannot let any of this happen. We are committed to preserving and improving our public schools and are dedicated to ensuring they remain some of the best schools in New Jersey.
We need your help to do so.
